Employee of the month, quarter, or year awards are common in many organizations, but especially in retail, hospitality, and manufacturing environments.

Often, employee recognition programs are tied to customer feedback, manager recommendations, and peer recognition. Employee of the Month, Quarter or Year Awards work extremely well when there are clear criteria for winning, and the recognition is visible to all employees.

Many companies will use key metrics or goals from the department, company or individual to establish the criteria for the award. Metrics such as attendance, training completion, attitude, customer satisfaction rating, level of work activity, contributions and suggestions, team participation, committee participation, displays of leadership, problem resolution, and goal attainment are all included as key criteria.

We see many organizations presenting an individual award to a recipient, and then also display a plaque in the corporate office showing the recipient's name and award date. Many times, perpetual awards are used, as the name plates can be added to and/or changed with new recipient information with each awarding.
